Walk into any store and security is sold like a toaster — a price, a box, a star rating. That is the wrong measure, and it costs people everything. A security system has exactly one job: to stand between what you love and the person who came to take it. Its value was never set by what it costs you. It's set by what it stops.

Most people never think about their system until the night it's tested. By then the measure is simple: it either held, or it didn't.

Be honest about what a security system is for. Someone willing to come onto your property — to harm your family, vandalize what you built, or carry off what you earned — that person is the specification. The system has to be his equal or better. Under-build it, and you didn't buy security. You bought a formality.

The person your system is built to stop does not scale himself down because the equipment was on sale. The threat sets the standard. We build to the threat.

Your security system is a guard that never blinks, never sleeps, and never calls out — on post twenty-four hours a day. So ask the question straight: if you were hiring a human guard to stand outside your family's door, would you pull just anybody off the street because he came cheap? And when that guard is a camera, his testimony is the footage. The test of a camera isn't the day it's installed — it's the day a detective asks for the footage. Grainy pixels don't prosecute.
